On Wednesday, the 16th of March 2016, at 11:00 a.m., the President of the University of Zakho, Assist. Prof. Dr. Lazgin Abdi Jamil, along with lectures and staff members of the university stood five minutes in silence, honoring the memory of the Halabja Genocide which became a symbol of resistance for all Kurds and humanity.

Aiming to pray for all the souls to rest in peace that were killed fighting for Kurdistan and also to pray to save the people of Kurdistan, this event was organized to remind on the chemical attacks of Halabdja, which took place on the 16th of March 1988.
